Our Mission and Methods
Our mission is to share information with our site visitors. This information falls mostly into two broad categories: product reviews and riding destinations. Our product reviews will help you evaluate whether an item is right for you. These reviews are grouped into six categories: MTB; Road; Electronics, including cyclocomputers and lights; Shop, which includes tools, cleaners, and lubricants; Media, such as books and DVDs; and Misc. You'll find links to our product reviews on the Gear page.

Our coverage of riding destinations gives you an insider's view of some of the best places to ride. We focus on lesser-known destinations. They're destinations with a high fun factor but ones you might not otherwise hear about. In addition to road and mountain bike rides we also do
H.I.C.K.™ Rides (Historic Indiana Countryside on Knobbies), where we use our mountain bikes to explore paved and unpaved country roads. We include information beyond the riding experience, such as places to stay, places to eat, and unique attractions. We also provide information on things to do for non-riding traveling companions. You'll find links to our ride reviews on the Go page.

At the top of each page is a Google search tool to help you find the latest information and best pricing for both products and destinations. We provide key search terms that you can simply scroll over, right-click to copy, and then right-click to paste into the Search box. You can also enter any other words you think would help refine or broaden your search.
For the first six years we were a membership-based organization offering group rides, training, and seminars to our members and to the general public. Late in 2009 we changed that. We no longer offer memberships and our rides and other events are no longer open to the public. This was done partly to because interest in what we offer had expanded far beyond our geographical location and we refocused our energies to better serve this broader audience through expanded Web content. But the main force driving the change was continued growth in the demand for Rich Ries's writing and photography services. "After a day spent serving clients I can still update the Big Ring Adventure Team Web site at two o'clock in the morning," Rich said. "But it's hard to get participants enthused for a two a.m. ride." For more information on Rich's business visit his site for editors or his site for businesses. Rich continues to ride extensively and welcomes company. Contact him if you'd like to join him for a ride. And to all our past participants and, especially, to all our former members, we offer our heartfelt thanks for your years of support.

Although we no longer conduct organized events, Rich Ries continues to ride and he'd love for you to join him. He has no schedule, no plan, no training regimen. He's neither coach nor critic. He won't give unwarranted attaboys. He offers no insurance, no medical assistance, no mechanical services. He assumes no responsibility, no liability, no blame. And if you ride with him it's because you agree to these terms. There. That should cover all the lawyer's fears. If you made it through all that and you still want to ride with him, you can get more info from twitter.com/RichRides. Note that you don't have to have a Twitter account to see Rich's latest ride posting. If you want to follow all his ride activity you do need an account, but it's easy to set up and to manage.
